What do you do with a ski mountain in the summertime? Mountain bike on our 50 miles of trails, of course! Take the Gondola up to Thunderhead and get ready for a wild ride down. Explore all the different trails on the mountain suitable for advanced beginner, intermediate and experienced mountain bikers.

The fleet includes Gary Fisher front and full-suspension bicycles. Children’s bicycles are non-suspension. Base Area/Town Bicycles also available and are perfect for cruising around the Base Area and bike path. They are not intended for use on the Gondola. Helmets are required and included for all mountain bike rentals. All riders of any rental must sign liability release form. Children under 18 years of age must have parent’s signature on liability release form. Rental pricing does not include sales tax, and all rentals require a credit card deposit.

Location
Purchase Mountain Bike lift tickets at the Main Ticket Office. Mountain Bike lift tickets are valid all day, weather permitting. All Mountain Bikes must have a lift ticket attached to ride Gondola.

Mountain Bike rentals are available at the Main Ticket Office and bikes can be picked up at Ride Sports in Gondola Square.

Hours
The Gondola operates daily from 10:00am - 4:00pm, weather permitting. Ride Sports is open daily from 9:00am - 6:00pm. The Ticket Office is open daily from 9:00am - 5:00pm.

Mountain Bike School in Steamboat

Private and Semi-Private Clinics
These clinics are for people who have ridden bicycles before but may not have done much riding on true mountain trails. Clinics will begin at the Base Area with the basics and then proceed to the Gondola for a ride down Zig Zag. Clinics offered June 21 - September 1, 2003, at 10:00am and 1:00pm. Mountain bike not included. Reservations required, please call 970-871-5252.

Coed Clinic - One Time Only!
Featuring expert biker, and certified coach, Katie Lindquist and her husband Kent Eriksen, founder of local bicycle manufacturer Moots Bicycles. This clinic is designed for intermediate or advanced riders who want to freshen up their riding skills and gain technical insight about bikes. The Coed Clinic will be held on July 12th from 10:00am - 4:00pm. Participants will meet at the Billy Kidd Statue, located at the entrance of the Gondola. Cost for the Coed Clinic is $60.00 per person and includes lunch. Please call 970-871-5252 for reservations and information.

Women’s Mountain Bike Clinics and 3 Day Camps
Gain confidence on your mountain bike while learning technique, maintenance and skills. Using curriculum from World Champion Mountain Bike Racer, Katie Lindquist, you will learn a variety of skills to better enhance your overall experience on a mountain bike. In both the Friday Clinics and the 3 Day Camps, you will learn valuable skills such as: how to change a flat tire, get a better fit on your bike, navigate obstacles, work on braking, switchbacks, climbing and downhill skills building. Designed for women ages 16 and up, from beginners to intermediates.

Friday Clinics - The Friday Clinics run every Friday from 10:00am – 2:00pm, starting June 27 - August 29, 2003, excluding July 4th. Lunch is included. Call 970-871-5382 for details.

3 Day Camps - There are 2 sessions available for the 3 Day Camps. The First Camp session is Tuesday, July 15th, Thursday, July 17th and Saturday, July 19th. The Second Camp session is Tuesday, August 12th, Thursday, August 14th and Saturday, August 16th. Tuesday and Thursday, learn the in’s and out’s of your mountain bike while doing minimal trail riding. Saturday, experience the thrill of mountain biking on a variety of trails on Mt. Werner followed by a lunch break at the top of the Gondola. Then move on to more skills, maintenance, Q & A and more bike riding! Call 970-871-5382 for details.

What to Bring: Wear proper riding attire. Helmets are mandatory with rentals available. Water and sunscreen. Don’t forget your Mountain Bike! If you don’t have one or would like to try a different bike other than your own, please come early to Ride Sports, located at the base of the Gondola, for a rental at a reduced rate. Lift & Bike Pass – Bring your season’s pass from the 2002/03 season, or purchase a reduced priced lift at the Main Ticket Office or Ride Sports. Pass holders will still need to purchase a bike lift.
